Frequently asked questions
What is Ultrasound?
Is ultrasound safe for mother and baby?
The use of ultrasound for sonograms has proven to be safe for over 40 years, during which it has been used as a tool for medical diagnosis and multiple scientific studies around the world. In the United States alone, over 24 million ultrasounds are performed yearly.
Why offer 2D ultrasound?
Two dimensional images are ideal to observe heart beats, fluid levels, real time fetal activity and the sex of the baby. In Ecobaby we always include 2D ultrasound with full medical evaluation and diagnosis with every 3D and 4D session, as they complement each other to give the specialist a full picture of the state of the baby. The advantage of regular ultrasound is the possibility to see through obstacles like a hand covering the face. The 2D ultrasound can be recorded in the video alongside the 4D.
Who performs the ultrasounds?
Unlike other centers, in Ecobaby we have a team of medical professionals with specialties in Gynecology and Radiology and additional training in 3D and 4D ultrasound. You can feel safe knowing that the most qualified professionals are taking care of you and your baby.
In Ecobaby we don’t want to substitute your prenatal controls or your primary physician’s recommendations. We aim to be a help to your doctors and collaborate in any way we can to guarantee the well being of your baby. It is important that the mother follows the recommendations of their attending doctor for care during and after pregnancy.
What determines the quality of the images?
Many factors intervene in the capturing of great quality images. We have some of the best medical equipments in the market, handles by highly qualified medical professionals to get the best images of your baby. Even in situations when the baby is shy or restless, we use every tool we have to get images of the best quality. The baby’s movements look great on the video of the 4D ultrasound, but they can make photograph capturing difficult. Other determining factors for the quality of the images are:
- The baby’s position: This is the most influencing factor in the quality of the images. Many babies cooperate and allow maximum visibility of their faces, others hide behind their arms, legs, placenta or face away from the transducer.
- The density of the tissue: Sound waves must go through the skin and other tissues to reach the baby, this factor affects the quality of the images.
- Amniotic fluid levels: The amount of liquid surrounding the baby affects the image, the more fluid the better the quality of the image.
When to have the 3D-4D session?
Can you tell the sex of the baby?
As of week 16 it is possible for our specialists to tell the sex of the baby through a 2D ultrasound. If for any reason it is not possible to see the sex during your session, you can book a free of charge follow up appointment to try again. If you don’t want to know the sex of the baby, no problem, our specialists will ask if you want to know before hand. We also offer appointments to confirm the sex of the baby at any point during the pregnancy.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
A referral is not necessary to attend a session at Ecobaby. However we need to insist that these sessions are not a replacement for medical checkups with your ObGyn.
Can I bring friends or family?
You can bring along two or three members of your family and friends, we know that this experience is ideal to create a bond between the baby and the parents, grandparents and siblings. Our facilities are designed so your companions can see the images in a 42″ screen, sitting comfortably. We can also email the images to any whoever you want.
Why do the images have a golden color?
Do I need an appointment?
Yes, in Ecobaby we have a schedule for all our specialists, and you can get your appointment contacting us via phone during office hours, email or through our contact form. Afternoons and weekends are the most booked appointments, we recommend booking some time in advance to secure the time that is most convenient for you.
How can I prepare to get the best images?
Make sure you drink plenty of water a few days before your appointment, this increases the amniotic fluid levels and improves the image quality. The day of the session you can eat something light and drink some fruit juice to encourage your baby’s movement.
Too much movement can make photographs difficult to capture, which is why we recommend you don’t drink coffee or citrus drinks before the session. It is not necessary to have a full bladder for the session, unless or support team explicitly mentions it. It is important to wear comfortable clothes that allow easy access to your belly.
How long is the ultrasound session?
Ultrasound sessions are around 40 minutes on average, however in Ecobaby we don’t work against the clock. We want to guarantee the best experience for future parents so the time for each session varies from family to family.
We recommend you come prepared for a few minutes waiting time around the time of your appointment, this is the best way we can make sure every family leaves Ecobaby with great images.
When will I have the photos, video and medical report?
Las fotos impresas, el DVD con el video y el informe médico de la ecografía estarán listos para que los lleves contigo después de tu sesión. Las fotos adicionales se enviarán por correo electrónico en el transcurso del día.
Are 3D and 4D ultrasounds covered by EPS or Medicina Prepagada?
